A self-leveling compound estimate converts floor area and average application depth into cubic feet, adds the selected waste allowance, then divides by the exact yield printed for one bag and rounds up. It is for nonstructural floor-leveling underlayment, not concrete slabs, foundations, strength design, or substrate approval.
Self-leveling compound bags from labeled coverage
Multiplying square feet by inches and dividing by 12 converts the planned layer into cubic feet. The same conversion turns the selected bag’s labeled square-foot coverage at its stated reference depth into a product-specific cubic-foot yield. Dividing adjusted project volume by that yield produces a bag count, which rounds up once because partial bags cannot complete the planned layer.
How to measure for an accurate estimate
- Map the floor with a suitable straightedge or level and take enough readings to estimate average fill depth, not only the maximum depression.
- Measure each area that will actually receive leveler, subtracting permanent openings or sections assigned to a different product and depth.
- Copy both coverage and its paired thickness from the exact bag or current technical data sheet; never infer yield from bag weight alone.

No. It estimates nonstructural floor-leveling underlayment from product-specific coverage. Structural slabs require approved thickness, concrete mixture, reinforcement, joints, base preparation, loads, drainage, and local-code decisions. How much extra self-leveling compound should I buy?
There is no universal percentage. Floor survey accuracy, surface texture, low spots, tool retention, mixing loss, transitions, and crew experience affect usage.
