What does the concrete bag calculator calculate?

Divide the required cubic feet, including placement allowance, by the yield printed on one bag and round up. Typical yields differ by bag size and product formulation, so use the package value. Bagged concrete is practical only when labor and mixer capacity can maintain placement quality.

Bag count from packaged yield

Bags = round up[(placed cubic feet × waste factor) ÷ cubic feet yielded per bag]

Package yield is the finished concrete volume one correctly mixed bag produces. Dividing adjusted project volume by that yield gives a fractional count, which must be rounded up because bags are purchased whole.

How to measure for an accurate estimate

  1. Calculate the project’s exact placed volume before opening this bag calculator.
  2. Read yield from the specific product package; do not infer it from bag weight alone.
  3. Keep cubic feet and cubic yards distinct: multiply cubic yards by 27 before entering volume.
  4. Measure separate deep sections independently and combine their cubic-foot volumes.

Common questions

How much concrete does an 80-pound bag make?

Many standard 80-pound concrete mixes list about 0.60 cubic foot of yield, but specialty and lightweight products can differ. Read the current package or technical data sheet and enter that exact yield rather than relying on bag weight.

How many bags of concrete can I mix at once?

That depends on the mixer’s rated wet capacity, not just drum size. Follow the mixer and concrete manufacturers’ limits. Overloading produces poor mixing and is hazardous; large placements also need enough capacity to avoid cold joints.

When is ready-mix better than concrete bags?

Ready-mix often becomes more practical when bag weight, mixing cycles, labor, consistency, and placement time outweigh delivery or short-load charges. Compare complete costs and confirm the crew can place and finish the volume without interruption.

Can I return unused concrete bags?

Retail policies vary, and moisture exposure can make bags nonreturnable. Keep receipts, leave contingency bags sealed and dry, and check the store’s policy before purchase. Never use hardened or water-damaged mix in structural work.
