Editorial and formula-validation standards.
This page defines what CalcurHome checks, what a review date means, how sources are used and where a planning calculator must stop. It does not claim unearned professional credentials or turn a tested formula into approval of a particular project.
What does “formula reviewed” mean?
A formula review means the published expression, input units, conversion factors, rounding behavior and worked example were checked together for internal consistency. The calculator is also exercised with default, zero and unusually large inputs so it does not return an undefined or non-finite result.
It does not mean an engineer, architect, surveyor, code official, contractor, manufacturer or supplier approved the result. It does not certify field measurements, site conditions, product choice or compliance. Those distinctions remain visible because a trustworthy planning tool should state the boundary of its evidence.
Checks required before a calculator is published.
- 1. Define the decision.The tool must solve a distinct measurement, conversion, packaging or budget decision. A keyword variation alone is not a reason to create another calculator.
- 2. State the formula and units.Every multiplication, division and conversion must identify its units. Inches are converted before they enter a feet-based formula, and square, cubic, weight and count units remain distinct.
- 3. Separate net and purchase quantities.The mathematical requirement is kept apart from waste, compaction, whole-package rounding or stock-length conversion. A user should be able to see why a purchase number is larger than the geometric quantity.
- 4. Reproduce a worked example.Inputs, intermediate relationships and the expected output are written before release. The example is checked against the implemented calculation rather than copied from the interface.
- 5. Exercise boundary conditions.Zero, very small and unusually large values are checked for stable behavior. Negative material quantities, NaN, Infinity and undefined result text are not acceptable outputs.
- 6. Make variable assumptions editable.Product coverage, density, waste, bag yield, stock length and local rates are exposed when they can materially change the result. A planning default is labeled as an assumption, not a universal specification.
How references support a calculator.
Sources are selected for the claim they can support. Government, standards organizations, trade associations and manufacturer technical documents are preferred for conversions, safety context, terminology and product-specific coverage. A source link is accompanied by a note explaining why it is relevant.
A source does not become an endorsement of CalcurHome and does not approve an individual estimate. Manufacturer documents apply to the identified product or system; public guidance may provide context without replacing current local rules. When a material value varies by supplier, the calculator asks the user to replace the default with a current product or quote value.

Checks required for the explanation around the tool.
- Answer the calculation question directly.A concise answer appears before extended explanation and states the result type, essential inputs and the most important limitation.
- Explain how to measure without implying unsafe work.Measurement guidance identifies the needed dimensions and common unit mistakes. It does not encourage roof access, excavation, structural alteration or regulated work.
- Keep buying guidance separate from design guidance.Packaging, return policy, supplier units and quote scope can be discussed. Structural sizing, code compliance and site diagnosis remain outside a quantity calculator.
- Use accountable language.CalcurHome does not invent experts, licenses, field experience, tests or endorsements. Organization-level authorship is used until a real contributor can be named with their actual role and review scope.
- Connect related decisions without duplicating pages.Project guides sequence existing calculators and preserve assumptions. They do not create doorway pages for keyword variants or conceal repeated content behind different titles.
What changes the visible review date?
The review date is advanced when the formula, units, default assumptions, example, source context or material explanatory text is checked as a complete page. A spelling correction alone does not justify presenting the formula as newly reviewed.
A material correction should update the calculation, affected example, direct answer, API output and related project guidance together. Where a source disappears or a product value becomes stale, the claim should be replaced, qualified or removed rather than preserving a broken citation for appearance.
How a reproducible correction is handled.
- Capture the exact page and inputs.The report should include the calculator URL, every entered value, the displayed result and the expected result.
- Reproduce before changing.The issue is checked against the formula, implementation, worked example and source context to determine whether it is a defect, unclear assumption or project-specific limitation.
- Correct all dependent surfaces.A confirmed material defect is fixed in the calculation and in any page, API response, example or project guide that depends on it.
- Retest boundaries and representative examples.The corrected tool must still behave at zero and extreme inputs and must preserve whole-package rounding where applicable.
